The Many Styles of Adirondack Chairs

Published by under Landscaping

Adirondack Chairs have been around since Thomas Lee invented them back in the early 1900′s. They’ve come a long way since he designed a chair just for his particular need. But they all still have one basic fundamental in common – a slanted back rest.

The original chair that Thomas Lee designed was for use in the Adirondack mountains area and as such the rear legs were much shorter than the front, allowing the user to sit upright on the sloping mountainous terrain. But today, we have discovered that these classic chairs are a worthy addition to any outdoor space and many adaptations have been made to that initial design.

The classic Adirondack Chairs have a fan back made of several slats with the sloping seat & back rest that you can just slide into. The wide arm rests easily accommodate a drink or a book, eliminating the need for a table when relaxing in these most desirable chairs.

New designs include variations in the shape of the back rest and the addition of a rocking base. Long legs or short, high back or low, wide seat or narrow, folding, flat-packed or ready assembled, cedar, teak or recycled polywood – the list goes on! And don’t forget the classic Westport Chair that evolved when Thomas Lee allowed his friend, Harry Bunnell, to take over the production of his design.

So, it’s all down to personal style. And with all these choices you can have a very unique look for your outdoor patio depending how you want to use your Adirondack Chairs. Stand out from the crowd and choose a wave back chair in a bright color and don’t forget the ottoman too. After all, if you’re going to relax then you may as well go the whole way & put your feet up!

Whilst not exactly designed for use as a dining chair the Adirondack Chairs have been adapted with a slightly more upright back rest so you can have a complete outdoor dining set too. Or choose a bistro set with high captain’s chairs in the Adirondack design.

And of course there’s a wide choice of materials too. The natural woods of cedar and teak are the most notable, giving the chairs their timeless look. Woods that can be painted any color under the sun or even paint a picture on the back rest & be totally unique! Or paint each wooden slat a different color. But if you don’t want to paint choose one of the many polywood chairs that come ready formulated in the color of your choice – have a different color for each chair you buy!

Whatever style of Adirondack Chairs that you choose, you’ll be certain of owning a classic piece of outdoor style that will give you hours of pleasure & relaxation!

Electrical Code Requirements For Bathrooms And Kitchens

Published by under Electrical

When you hire an electrician to finish your wiring system installation for your home bathroom and kitchens you should make sure that all electrical codes are met. Ask the electrician if he or she is aware of all the local county, city, and state codes. Kitchens have lots of different appliances and bathrooms have many different areas that are close to moisture so each of these home areas have specific rules and regulations that must be met in order for your house to meet requirements and be eligible for electric fire hazard insurance. Here are some general tips and rules when it comes to being sure your wiring, outlets, and switches are connected and installed properly throughout your bathroom and kitchen areas.

1.Bathroom Wiring Set Up and Installation – Believe it or not most bathrooms demand a lot of electricity and power in order to keep the conveniences we all enjoy possible. Because of the power needed it is crucial that a separate circuit be dedicated to these areas. For families of three or more you will almost always be using devices such as electric razors, electric toothbrushes, hair dryers, lights, ventilation systems, heating lamps, and heaters.

Heaters when installed should be given a separate 20 amp circuit in order to be safe! Any outlet that is put inside your “home room” for safety reasons must be ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI). Also keep in mind that for lighting fixtures they should almost always be moisture resistant because of sinks, showers, and bathtubs.

The types of outlets to use can be purchased for a low price at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, or Menard’s home improvement centers. These outlets include outlets with varying voltages and amperage such as 120 volt, 15 amps with a NEMA of 1-15, a NEMA 1-20 which is 120 V by 20 Amp and a 220-240 Volt to 15 Amp outlet! The classifications are simple but for bathrooms you may need one of each.

2. Kitchen Wiring Set Up and Installation – Kitchen spaces regardless of their size will always need a separate circuit and in most cases two separate circuits. Why two circuits? Well kitchens always have many appliances running or that need to be run in order to cook food, warm up leftovers, keep food cold, make toast, and wash dishes. Think about what appliances you use on a daily basis and how big of an electrical load they use.

Normal homes have kitchens that equipped with refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, toasters, coffee makers, ovens, stove tops, and garbage disposals. Typically electric code requirements ask that a 240 volt circuit with grounded wiring is installed to support large appliances like your oven. The other outlets must be two receptacle at the minimum. Remember safety comes first with high voltage appliances and electrical wiring so consult with an experienced electrician before doing any work yourself.

For even more tips, advice, suggestions, and information about getting new wiring systems in your kitchens and bathrooms you can speak with a local electrician. From your local contractor you will be able to get a written estimate and home inspection for your wiring as well.

Small Room Decoration Tips

When a room is small, that doesnt mean it should lack in style. There are so many ways to decorate a small room so that its both stylish and functional. Following are some tips that will not only help you best utilize your space but come out with a great-looking room.

Paint an Accent Wall
Create an accent wall by painting one wall in the room a bold color. Not only does this make the room appear larger, but it also gives it a stylish feel. Make sure, however, that you paint the other walls a complementary color. Otherwise the one bold wall might look out of place.

Its a good idea to stay away from dark colors, though. Black, dark blue, red, or dark green dont necessarily make good bold colors. Rather stick with colors like pink, yellow, or aquamarine. Unfortunately, when you use dark colors in a small room, you only make the area look much smaller.

Choose Furniture That Fits the Size of Your Room
Keeping your furniture to scale is essential. For instance, dont put a huge wooden bed in a really small bedroom. The same holds true for a small family room. Instead, look for furnishings that fit well and that dont overpower the room. You want to be able to comfortably walk around in the room without having to bump into pieces of furniture.

Find Furniture That Also Works as Storage
Furniture in a small room should be functional as well as stylish. For instance, a piece like a wooden chest not only can pose as a side table or coffee table but can also provide storage for items such as blankets and toys that you may need to store in the room. This will leave you more room, allowing you to sneak more storage into a small area.

Its also important to maximize your vertical space. By maximizing the height of your walls, not only are you adding more storage but also more design space. For great vertical storage pieces, look for items such a wooden bookshelf and armoires.

Attaching shelving to the walls is another way to create additional space. You can use the shelving both for design and functional space. By placing some of your books and knickknacks on the shelves in an interesting manner, you can add additional style to the area.

Let in Some Light to Open Up a Room
Try to allow as much natural light as possible to filter into your small room. Natural light is great, in that it always makes a room look brighter and bigger. Avoid those overwhelming window treatments. Instead, keep it simple with some blinds or a pair of plain drapes. You might also try adding mirrors to the walls. This will reflect the incoming light, making the room look even larger.

Choose Lighting That Doesn’t Overwhelm the Space
Avoid installing lighting fixtures that either hang down or are otherwise way too large for the space. In this situation, track lighting is a great option, as it doesnt take up much space but keeps the room well-lit, even at night.

Decorating a small space does not necessarily have to be hard or boring. If you keep things relatively simple and functional, adding in small aspects of your style here and there, youll find that youll really be able to enjoy your small space.

Feng Shui Chi

Published by under Feng Shui

Yin and Yang

The common terms used to describe feng shui chi in a different forms are ‘yin chi’ and ‘yang chi’. More dispersed, cooler and slower is the yin chi, while the yang chi is hotter, faster and more compressed. In short, yin chi resembled the shady side of the mountain and yang chi stood for the sunny side. As yin and yang are complementary and in the opposing sides, that allowed us to get ourselves to connect with everything within our surroundings and environment, be it yin or yang. And because of this, whenever we’re out of sync with our chi, we could decide what steps to take in order to bring ourselves back into the correct balance.

It is perfectly normal for people to have either more yin or yang chi as it is commonly healthy to have that. However, at times, having too much of a certain chi could bring some problems into the lives of the individuals. When that happened, look for the chi that is lacking and which is in excess and take corrective actions to balance them. Just increase the lacking chi and reduce the excessive one.

Natural yin qualities

The characteristics of those who possess a more natural yin chi tend to have eyes that blinks more often. They will have difficulties in making eye contact with another person. In terms of physical built, they will have a face shaped in oval, leaner body frame, larger eyes, fleshy cheeks, full lips, and relatively longer fingers and toes compared to those who have less yin chi.

Gentleness, imaginative, creative, flexible, sensitive and easy going are some of the traits of people who have yin qualities. And those who have more natural yin can become too yin easier compared to slipping into becoming too yang.

Natural yang qualities

People with yang chi will physically look more solid, stockier body frame, and a face that is rounder in comparison to those with the opposite yin chi. And to emphasize more, these people tend to also have lips that are thin, small eyes and their jaw line well-developed.

People who have yang qualities tend to live a more dynamic type of lifestyle besides being more active, precise, alert and focused. And similar to those with yin chi, the people that have more yang chi will not easily fall into being too yin compared to being too yang.

Mistakes To Avoid When Updating Your Kitchen Decor

Updating your kitchen’s design can give it a fresh, new and appealing look that is important, especially if you plan on selling your home. You can end up having problems and spending lots of money if you don’t plan out your redesign well enough. The tips offered in this article will assist you in renovating your kitchen in the right way so that you don’t overspend and create obstacles for yourself.

Realize that if you don’t have too much money that you shouldn’t think about adding new appliances, cabinets and counter tops to your kitchen. You can be set back if you don’t have the budget to make all these changes, so try to keep your ideas simple. The look and feel of your kitchen can change drastically with some small and affordable changes.

Don’t be impulsive

Don’t go for the first thing that catches your eye if you have not yet decided on what theme you want to take on. Take a notebook with you and make notes of the many accessories, kitchenware and other gadgets you like. If a new faucet is on your list, or you want appliances or other items that are a bit expensive you should comparison shop for the best price before making a purchase.

Choose a style that “fits” with the rest of your home

When renovating or refreshing the kitchen, you also want to make sure that what you choose in terms of style doesn’t conflict with the rest of the home. While it’s okay for you to blend styles like the western and country styles, trying to mix something like cottage chic and modern really doesn’t make much sense.

If you have a living room and kitchen that are open to each other, the best colors to use are those that are similar to each other so that the rooms blend seamlessly.

Remember – all those little extras add up

It can be easy to overspend before you realize it, especially if on a tight budget. You can find yourself spending lots of money on kitchen gadgets and accessories, especially when you purchase them separately. Buy one or two at once and you’ll think the costs are reasonable, but you may actually be shocked at the added total of what you’ve spent.

Prepare before updating your kitchen, even if you can afford new cabinets or other high-dollar items. Decide on your color scheme and take some notes down as you shop around first. Think about your storage needs so that when you have those new cabinets installed there are no surprises. Also, don’t forget to account for the installation fees if you’re planning on getting a new tile floor or new counter tops.

If you put these tips and ideas to work for you, you’ll be able to update your kitchen with more money left in the bank and way less stress. Not only will creating a plan of attack ensure that you don’t overspend, but it will also help result in a kitchen that is more beautiful and coordinated. Since your kitchen gets a lot of traffic you should make sure that you not only keep it beautiful, but that you keep it warm and welcoming as well.
